Mom & Boys Day Out!!!

On Thursday, the boys and I took a day and had a mom & boys day out. This summer we have been spending a lot of time swimming in our pool and everything but we decided to actually leave our house and go somewhere. We headed over to Treasure Village Children's Theatre and watched Jack & the Beanstalk. The play was very good and the boys really liked it and laughed a tons during it. As you can see with the picture the boys also got to enjoy popcorn and water while they watched it!

After the play we got to play 27 holes of mini golf. The boys did very good and even had a couple hole-in-one's. I started off playing with them but trying to take pictures and keeping up didn't work out too well. So after about the third hole I decided to just take pictures and let the boys do all the golfing.

By the time we got done with all that it was almost past lunch time. We decided to just go through the Burger King drive-thru and eat on the way home. We all had such a good time that we decided we are going to head back next week to watch the Wizard of Oz. It is always nice to take these moments when I can.

Fun at the Dells!!!

We were very fortunate to get to take a trip a week ago to the Wisconsin Dells with my mom & dad also referred to as Grandpa & Mimi Spoo. We stayed at the lovely Wilderness Resort for 2 nites. Our resort had 3 indoor water parks & 4 outdoor water parks. Nick and I had a chance late winter to check this place out to make sure that it was a good place for children Isaac & Eli's age. It was a little chilly and rained a bit but with all the indoor water parks it turned out fine.

The boys all seemed to take a liking to the huge wave pool in one of the water parks and ended up spending lots of time there. It was kind of nice Isaac & my dad hung out and Nick & Eli partnered up so my mom and I got the chance to venture out and go down water slides together. Mom and I really enjoyed the outdoor water slides the best.

When Nick and I went I was a little more gutsy and went down the Black Hole which is like a toilet bowl ride.. This time I wasn't so daring.. in fact everyone kept calling me a chicken cause they all went down the ride called the hurricane except the boys they weren't quite tall enough and really enjoyed it.. I let my mind get the best of me and didn't do it. Maybe next time :)

We ended up doing a lot in the two days we had. We started the one day off by going miniature golfing at a really nice course and we all had a blast. We then went on the "Original Ducks" which is a military type vehicle that goes on land & water. That was pretty cool but the boys Isaac especially was pretty unsure and HATED being in the water on it. Our guide was very funny and made the trip even more enjoyable.

We had a great time and ate at some really good places. We have decided that we will definitely be going back to the Dells maybe even next year we will have to see.

Girls Nite Out!

Last nite I was very lucky and got a little night away even with Nick being in Des Moines this week for work. Thank goodness for grandparents that love being with their grandchildren. While Isaac was staying at the campground with Grandpa & Grandma Hanson and Eli was having an " Eli nite" at Grandpa & Mimi Spoo's I got to go out with one of my best girl friends Tara. The winery near Superior was having a Chick Flick nite. Tara and I started the evening going to the winery and doing some wine tasting. A local store Fifth Street Gifts was the featured guests and they had some of their items over there which includes purses. Well if anyone knows me I am obsessed with purses. So of course I bought myself a new purse. After that we decided to taste some wine and then enjoyed some cheese and crackers. We decided not to stay for the movie and headed over to the lakes to enjoy supper at Minervas. We were home by 9:00 but it was so nice to get to go out for a Girls Nite with a great friend!

Ozarks!!!

In the beginning of July we went down to the Lake of the Ozarks for 4 days. We had an absolute blast. One of Nick's seed dealers he works with has a condo on the lake and he let us and some really good friends of ours use it for the extended weekend. So on Wednesday July 9th the boys and I headed to Paullina for the nite and stayed with Amber & the girls. Nick and Dan were in Kansas City at the beginning of the week until Thursday for meetings so we decided to go down and meet them at the Ozarks. So bright and early Thursday morning Amber, Kayla, Abby, their babysitter Crystal, Isaac, Eli & I all got up and headed down south. The guys had pulled Schreck's boat down with them which Amber was sure glad she didn't have to drive and pull the boat too :) When we finally got down there 11 hours later we were all ready to get the heck out of the truck.

The condo was absolutely beautiful. We spent the next 4 days on the boat tubing and anchoring and swimming. The water was so warm it was hard to believe especially as big as the lake is and how deep it gets. We brought all our own food so it was nice to be able to stay on the lake and in the condo the whole time without any traveling. The boys got to try out tubing for the first time and they both loved it. Nick and I even tubed a little and enjoyed it!! So we spent the days in the lake and the evenings we went and swam at the condo's pool. Needless to say we all came home with wonderful tans!! We were all pretty worn out by the end of the 4 days but, were also sad to have to leave. Hopefully we will all make it down there again sometime!

Northern Minnesota Fishing!!!

This summer has been filled with tons of vacations for us. We started off the summer in May going up to the cabin we always go to in Northern Minnesota and we fortunate enough to go for 1 1/2 weeks this year. The boys absolutely loved spending so much time with Grandpa & Mimi Spoo. The highlight of the trip was Isaac 6, caught his very first walleye. This wasn't your average walleye either. This is how it happened. The day before Nick had to head back home for work my dad, Nick, Isaac & Eli decided they were going to go out fishing and try to get the boys a couple of fish. The fishing hadn't been the best so far this trip. Well they were making their last pass before heading back to the cabin and Isaac hooked a fish. Dad stopped the boat and Isaac reeled and reeled the fish in. Nick and dad didn't think it could be a very big one, maybe a Northern since it wasn't fighting too hard for Isaac. Well he finally got it to the boat and dad put the net down to scoop it up and they were very surprised when they got it in the boat and it was a walleye.. A HUGE WALLEYE. Isaac's fish ended up being a little over 27 inches long and 7.5 lbs. They brought it back to the cabin to show me and my mom and we couldn't believe it. Not very often does anyone catch that big of walleye let alone it being a 6 year old boy. Well since it probably will never happen again and the fish was his very first ever walleye and that big it is in our freezer getting ready to take a trip to the taxidermist and it is going to end up on my living room wall.

The trip was very fun and this is a vacation that we look forward to every year. The boys are already talking about next year when we get to go back~~

My new hobby

Well this is my very first blog I have ever done. I have been looking at a couple of my friends and decided that this is something that looked fun and a great way to keep people updated on our family. A little bit about me. Nick and I live on an acreage in northwest Iowa with our two boys Isaac & Eli. I own a preschool in town and Nick is an agronomist for Garst Seed Company. Isaac just finished kindergarten and is heading into first grade and Eli is going to be in preschool. I hope that everyone will enjoy reading my blogs and keeping updated with what we are doing in our lives!!!
